elke dinsdagavond om 19.30u stipt een open bridgetornooi
JAZZ BRIDGE aims to address as much as possible all distributions and in the meantime to make bidding difficult for opponents.
JAZZ BRIDGE uses the 1NT weak opening , 12-15hp, indicating all balanced hands without 4 card major. Opponents have to enter the auction on the 2 level.
JAZZ BRIDGE is also a modular system : only the one-level openings are interrelated and are mutually impacted if if one of them changes. The 2 and 3 level openings can be filled according to own taste with preferences for preemptiveness.
Jazz is one of the most searched words for its origin in Americian English. The ‘American Dialect Society’ even called it the word of the 20th century. ‘Jazz’ started as ‘slang’ in 1912 and was used the first time in 1915 related to the music (Chicago) although this style was played earlier in New Orleans. .
As with many words that originated from slang, there is no clear explanation on how this word was created. Generally spoken, one thinks the word is derived from ‘jasm’ meaning ‘spirit’,’enthousiasm’, ‘energy’.
A piece of the article from Ernest J. Hopkins titled “In Praise of ‘Jazz,’ a Futurist Word Which Has Just Joined the Language.” publiced on 5 april 1913 in “The Bulletin” : “JAZZ can be defined but there are no synonyms. Would there be another word with the same meaning, 'jazz' would never existed. A new word is created when the need for it exists a long time. This remarkable and satisfying well sounding word means something like 'joy', 'magnetism', 'fire' , 'passion' , 'courage' .
We selected the sympathic 'JAZZ' as name for this new bridge system because of the analogy for something which is 'out of the box' .
In line of all this (“all this jazz”) and also because the author plays the trombone in a local big band, he chooses for names of famous jazz-artists to baptize some new conventions. That's how he bridges the two global universal 'systems' :
the bridge game and music.
